Library membership is restricted to people who are visually impaired as defined by the Visually Impaired Persons Act 2002, and who are also UK or EU residents. According to the Act you must fit into one of the following categories to be allowed to join our online library.

  • You are blind.
  • You have an impairment of visual function which cannot be improved by the use of corrective lenses to a level that would normally be acceptable for reading without a special level or kind of light.
  • You are unable through physical disability to hold or manipulate a book, or to focus or move your eyes to the extent that would normally be acceptable for reading.
  • You suffer from print blindness caused by dyslexia.

There are two exceptional situations in which you may also join our online library.

  • You are an agent (for example, a teacher, carer, parent or guardian) of someone who fits in one of the categories above, and you are joining on their behalf.
  • You are a member of staff at Seeing Ear or are volunteering for Seeing Ear, and you are using the online library solely for testing on behalf of Seeing Ear.
